I will certainly seek out more Rattigan plays on the strength of this, and I will attend their next production 'Kindertransport'. The small stage had no breaks for scene change bar a very brief dimming of the lights, and the different room settings from court room to sitting room etc was achieved by different stage levels and positioning of cast.

To say that these are not professional actors, the play kept us gripped from the first minute to the last. I attended the charity preview of this play last night, and it was excellent. She was in the audience and was proud of the performance.Ī thoroughly convivial venue with a good range of theatre. We also met a 90 year old volunteer who helps as a prompter during rehearsals. One of our party had never been to the theatre before and enjoyed it immensely. That was quite well attended and also brilliant for all of us and we all met the director and actors after, along with drinking a few pints at the bar. I booked in the morning five of us in the front row. I vowed to return and actually have been back with four friends on my Birthday for Beautiful Thing performed by the Youth Theatre Group the theatre nurtures. After another pint I left very satisfied and a bit merry after having met Mark, Simon, David, Alison & Stevie. They also want more volunteers but I explained I was already fully committed on that front and was not really a theatrical person. They have plans of rearranging the venue and have a building fundraiser at the moment. The 'staff' were volunteers basically which kept the prices and costs down. I also met the management and had a long chat about the venue and its management. Another well priced bottle of beer and one each for the actors went down well. Mark and his colleague Simon were brilliant in their performance and at the end the bar was open and I had the chance to meet them both as mingling was encouraged. I had a very well priced beer which I took into the theatre space which was again quite cosy (113 max) and like a converted barn. The building used to be a Victorian bakery and was converted by a Mr Nook into a theatre in 1938 - it's all on the Website! On reading the various interpretation around, including portraits of well known actors performing there. On arriving I found a busy and atmospheric small venue that seemed to be in a barn conversion. I booked ahead on their website no problem. I am a middle aged guy from Lewisham and wanted to see 'Howerd's End' by Mark Farelly. 21/7 & 17/9/22 Thursday and Saturday evenings
